In couples counseling, we’ll look very specifically at the dynamic of your relationship. Sometimes the issues are being driven by one or the other person’s anxiety, depression or addiction. Sometimes it’s more effective for one or the other to get individual therapy first to deal with their own issues, and then continue with couples therapy afterward.
I’m trained in the developmental model by the couples institute in the bay area of California. It looks at a relationship in developmental stages, just like a person has developmental stages. The method seeks to determine where the relationship is stuck and enhances the ways that people listen and respond to each other. It also helps to improve the process by which they resolve conflict in order to have more productive outcomes and happier lives.
It focuses on not only healthy balance within your relationship, but also you as an individual in order to have a life together, and also a life of your own that work seamlessly together.
